Debbie, are you sure it's not thrush? I recently had a Group mom
(LLL) with a giant knob on her nipple that looked like a huge bleb
(milk blister). She went to a doctor who told her it was a calcified
milk deposit, which I didn't buy (doc also said she'd need surgery to
excise it, which I also didn't buy). I never supected thrush because
this mom was very prone to blebs and was taking lecithin anyway, I
just thought it was a really bad one that didn't resolve itself. She
finally went on a course of diflucan, treated her baby as well, and
reports (after several months of working on it) that she has never
felt better, the big white knob is gone from her nipple, and she is
pain free for the first time in her nursing memory.
My radar went up when you said this mother was on
Ampicillin...antibiotics often lead to thrush in yeast-susceptible
women. What do you think?
