Following this conversation with interest- here is a call I got the other day that kind of fits in with the subject, and made me smile so much I have to tell 'someone'. I called her back at the end of a long day- she had left a message in the morning; I am changing a few details to protect her identity but here is the gist of the story. Baby is 2 weeks old, 2nd baby, healthy full term.
Mom- You finally called, I was about to give up!
Leader- What's happening?
Mom- The baby is fussing a lot, should I give her a bottle?
Leader- Let's see if we can figure out what she needs.
On questioning, baby is already over birth weight, greater than 5 yellow stools per day, etc. Turns out mom is holding her off to every 3 hours, just needs to hear that more frequently is OK.
Mom- I didn't nurse my first child because he just wasn't interested. But they put this one right on my chest when she was born. I was talking to the doctor and when I looked down she was on my nipple! It was like we were in the jungle or something!
Now this pair is a happy nursing couple, and the mom was just open to doing whatever her baby wanted. Super cool.
