This is something I wonder about all the time! Why do the mothers not follow
on with the tools i give them? An example is Reverse Pressure Softening- I
teach it to virtually all my new mums who have engorged , full areolas. It
works. They say ...wow , thats amazing, a pain free latch! I give them the
handout. Then they dont do it because its too much hassle?? I just dont get
this .
I try very hard not to be too hands on and then find myself demonstrating on
myself ! But I do guide the mothers hand ( mainly away from the back of the
babys head) and always have them do a few latches on their own before i go.
I think Pams D's idea about leaving them alone to do it so its not an " exam
" is great and I will try that.
Yes there are days , weeks ,I wonder if anyone has it easy starting off but
then I get the most wonderful call where I know ive made a difference and
its all ok again!
BTW are there any other newly qualified IBCLc's out there interested in
formimg an email support for each other as its a bit lonely at times and id
love to rant and also to give support to others starting out.
