Something sounds very amiss here.

Kidney failure results in the kidneys not being able to form urine, I
believe. Could the mother have gotten confused with a complicated
explanation the doc might have tried to give her??
There is such a thing as water intoxication from too much fluid intake,
especially fluids without electrolytes, like water. Something like that can
happen from IV fluids as well as oral fluids, I think.
And there is also diabetes insipidus, which I think is a pituitary disease
probably involving the anti-diuretic hormone. If that were to be the case,
breastmilk would certainly not be the cause!
