The more I think about the commercialization of human milk, the more I can
see what is coming ..... the imagination is off and running! First the
hospitals. Then the grocery stores. "Organic canned human milk from REAL WOMEN!"
Do you want 20, 22, 24, 26 cal? Baby fussy -- no problem -- we'll provide
lactose free human milk. Then dairy free human milk. (That oughta be
interesting). There will probably be several companies competing. "OUR human milk
now with REAL long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids."
Perhaps even a plug for -- "Our milk comes from Norway, Denmark, Sweden and
Finland where the DHA and ARA levels are higher. You'll have smarter babies
when you buy our specially prepared human milk directly from Scandinavia.
"Scandelac -- because your baby deserves nothing but the best."
Actually babies deserve nothing but the breast, but that's another post.
"It is a well known fact that mothers should breastfeed their babies, but
when they can't, or they don't have enough, or it's inconvenient, or they are
out in public -- give your baby the BEST -- our human milk -- produced by
Lactlike!" (Less expensive than Scandelac because it is produced right here in
the U S of A. Buy American!!)
"Are you a vegetarian? Not to worry! OUR human milk is derived only from
women that don't eat meat. Get your Vegelact here!"
The possibilities are endless.
That would give Ross, Mead Johnson, Nestle et al a run for their money,
wouldn't it?
No longer would mothers have to pump and bottle feed -- they could go to the
local Safeway and get the Real Deal in a can. No longer do they have to
worry about that glass of wine at dinner or taking that antibiotic.
And if they wanted to do something as old fashioned as actual BREASTfeeding
-- well, if there are any problems -- no worries, be happy! Canned human
milk.....at your local White Hen Pantry.
Coming next to a farm near you -- our contented Gestacows -- so you don't
have to worry about ruining your figure or go through the pain of labor and
birth.....
:>D
Jan -- with tongue planted firmly in cheek -- and who has definitely had way
too much coffee this morning.
