Kathleen has asked if oxytocin nasal spray is available in the US. While the
brand called Syntocinon is no longer available, compounding pharmacies can
easily make oxytocin nasal spray, usually in a dose of 40-50 units/ml. It can
be expensive. One of the exhibitors at the ILCA conference last summer (Med
Specialities Compounding Pharmacy at
877 373-2272) compounds oxytocin nasal spray (as well as all purpose nipple
ointment, gentian violet, Domperidone, etc).
Also on another note, the Massachusetts Breastfeeding Coalition has a brand
new parent handout available on the importance of skin-to-skin contact called,
It's My Birthday--Give Me a Hug." You can download the document free of
charge from the coalition's website at
_www.massbfc.org_ (http://www.massbfc.org) .
