Remember that the virus that causes shingles, which is a painful, scary
problem, is also the one that causes chicken pox. You can't transmit
shingles itself. If baby does not get enough immunity from mom, what
she will get is chicken pox.

My 4yo had shingles when I had a tiny baby, and there was no concern at
all, because when a mom has natural immunity, and can pass it through
bf, it is really *hard* to get the kiddo to catch chicken pox. Said
kiddo is now almost two and I thoroughly exposed her to no avail about
a month ago. I wish it were so easy to catch!

If the baby in question has some kind of immune deficiency, that might
be different, but then that would be a child who needs breastmilk more
than ever.
