Dear all:
I have mom's permission to post. Her baby is now nine months old and she's back at work.
Recently she has been noticing her milk goes bad within 24 hours (she's not sure if this has
happened since she first went back to work or just started happening). I mentioned the scalding,
freezing method, but it just dawned on me that the logistics of this for a mother who is pumping
at work present a lot of problems.
I am not having any luck digging through my references for how to make this practical for a
working mother who must pump at work. Anyone who can remember the original source for the
scalding method, I'd love to have it because I'm digging through Lawrence and Riordan and
Aurbach and not getting anywhere. I can tell this is going to be a scour it from cover to cover
session.
Any suggestions?
Must she scald the milk immediately at work? Or is there some way to bring it home (she can
come home for lunch break) and then scald it? If so, is it better to keep it at room temp and bring
it home or refrigerate? Any practical suggestions would be most appreciated.
Best, Susan Burger, MHS, PhD, IBCLC
