Hi Kika,
Congratulations! As vice-president of my local ILCA afilliate (the NY
Lactation Consultant Association), I certainly think that professional
associations for lactation consultants are vitally important. NYLCA
gives us a chance to support each other emotionally and professionally,
sponsor conferences with awesome speakers (we've had many Lactnetters
speak at our annual conferences) and do some political work to promote
breastfeeding and IBCLCs, and provide some public service as well. You
could start with an online group (email or chat) to do some planning,
and set up an in person meeting, perhaps where each IBCLC shares her
most interesting case to date.
