Okay -- I thought I had this all down pat -- I use Kay Hoovers Diaper Diary
frequently and assumed it was completely correct. For a bfeeding class I am
teaching for a local hospital they say I cannot use because it is incorrect
.
In the notes they gave me to present it says, "3 substantive bowel movements
each 24 hours from the first day of life."
Diaper Diary says Day1=1 poop, Day2=2 poops, Day 3=3 poops, Day 4 and on=4
poops.
LLL Bfeeding Answer Book says "At least 3 to 4 bowel movements the size of
a US quarter (2.5cm) or larger (Shrago 1998) is a good indicator that the
baby younger than 6 weeks is receiving enough claories.
The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding says, "For the first six weeks or so, a
breastfed baby will usually have two to five bowel movements a day."
Spangler says in Breastfeeding-A Parents Guide- "Expect at least 3 stools a
day for the first 3 days and at least 4 stools a day for the next 4 weeks."
So hey there, when I am teaching a group of
wide-eyed-new-to-this-never-heard-this-before about to be parents -- what IS the definitive answer here??
They want the facts, ma'am, just the facts.... Thanks much, Ann
