Does being pampered in a hotel setting imply that someone else (other than
mom) takes care of everything? How does this effect parents' expectations
on night care, breastfeeding, decision making, etc. Does it imply that
someone else will do the work she left behind at home for this holiday?
Like cooking, laundry, child care... I would like more of a summer camp
theme, like planned nap times during the day.... What I see is that many
parents entertain themselves, and guests all day, then are too tired at
night to do night time parenting, instead of transitioning into 24 hour
parenting with naps in the hospital. When parents learn childbirth
education from tv shows, and parenting, feeding etc from ads, and the
birthplace is like a hotel, the whole thing adds up to crazy expectations
that are so far off from reality, and so little empowerment, why would
anyone exclusively breastfeed???? It just seems like mixed messages to me.
It leaves hospital lc's to present perfect breastfeeding right now to
complete the scene. I guess I would like more prenatal education so that
parents could expect to become empowered and educated in a lovely setting,
instead of waited on. Judy
