I am far from having any knowledge of biochemistry, but seems to me
that a single sample of pumped milk will not give *any* clinical
information at all.....it doesn't matter what goes into the pump,
it's what goes into the baby that counts.
Even if her expressed milk was bursting with triglycerides, it
wouldn't tell us what was going into the baby at that moment or at
any other.
Simplest reason for a baby not gaining is the most obvious one: baby
isn't feeding often enough.
If this goes on for long, the milk supply is compromised and the
mother makes less and less milk.
As we all (but probably not the doctor who ordered this test) know :)
This mum needs to share how often she is feeding, day and night.
The other explanation is that the baby is 'falling of the growth
curve' in a way that is totally physiological to him, and there is
nothing wrong with him, his frequency of feeding or the mother's milk
quality.
