I had a mom go from not nursing at all, to starting to pump 10 days pp,
to a full supply within a couple weeks. The baby didn't actually nurse
at the breast until about ten weeks (and was bottle fed by Dee
Kassing's method). It was just a long, long transition for them. She
tried only once per day for weeks, and then started to visit me a few
times, whereupon the baby would latch fabulously, and she felt
encouraged to try more often. When baby cried, I would "interpret"
along the lines of frustration and confusion and hope for "getting it"
in the future.
I only wish there were a magic wand. S2S comes darn close.
