I used to laugh this off when it was used. Then I, like others that
have posted, realized it is an incredibly offensive term. I heard it's
use twice in a couple days at work and sent off an email to the staff
saying I found it incredibly offensive and didn't want to hear it
again. Several people commented that they were either amazed such a
term had been used, or apologized for using the term themselves. I
think we need to call people on it.
Sadly, a few weeks later I was talking to a relative I hadn't seen in
awhile and told her what I do, and she told me her sister, who is a
nurse midwife used the term when she (the relative I was talking with)
had had her baby. You would think midwives would be one group we could
count on for support.
