Hi all,
Just wanted to chime in here,
Quite a few cases of unidentified unilateral breast pain do somehow remedy themselves with the good
ol' tincture of time - but how and why? I have found that in spite of working over and over again on latch and positioning, we are not always "heard" and often our advice is not always followed.

More than a few times the pain has abated when special attention is paid to the "weaker" side. As we know there is usually a preferred side by mom, and most times the painful breast is the one the mother prefers less. When shown yet again, how to optimize the position in order to protect the health of mom's body, I have found improvement in many cases. So I think that some of the improvement in some moms is simply because they work on improving the positioning themselves, for lack of any other proactive changes that have been offered.
