The thing that strikes me is that the mother has apparently had no
difficulty getting pregnant again several times while nursing. This
indicates that her estrogen levels can't have been continuously
suppressed for the last 6 years -- they had to come up enough for her
to ovulate and be fertile.
How old is (are) her current nursling(s)? Is she in lactational
amenorrhea at present?
Sounds to me as if the extended nursing is a red herring here. She
should ask her HCPs how they would proceed if she *wasn't* nursing.
Just a thought -- does she consume soy foods? Unfermented soy (ie
the kind that is in popular foods such as soy milk, protein bars,
etc) been shown to disrupt women's cycles.
