The mother (and the LC) will never go wrong if they ask themselves the
following question: WHAT MUST I DO TO KEEP THIS BABY AT THE BREAST?
The mother's time and energy is best spent WITH HER BABY (preferably skin-
to-skin.
Total time-wasters guaranteed to lead to early weaning from the breast and
an almost guaranteed way to ensure mom will not choose breastfeeding with
her next baby: Pumping to the extent mom does not have time in her day to
spend nursing her baby. Syringes, fingers, spoons, bottles or any other
gadget that is not mom's nipple.
PUT THE BABY TO THE BREAST!
