Subject: Re: Anyone have feedback on new pump?
Hello Karen....Yahoooooo, !!! Finally, someone else is looking for feedback
and some comments and comparisons.
My first comment is that I seriously think this pump is going to give Medela
and Ameda a run for their money. For all the reasons that Avent has been the
top-rated manual pump....I don't think I need to tell Lactneters those
reasons...but now that the electric will do both breasts- my goodness!!!!
Second comment relates to the research that prompted Medela to make the
Advanced. I think Avent, if used based on the whole let-down scenario, that it
will be a more effective pump than the Advanced. This is where L.C.'s can
really make a difference and where large department stores can't. Your mom can be
taught about the babies rhythm before and after the letdown. If they can
understand faster and fluff and then stronger and slower (I'm really abbreviating
the cycle here), this pump can and will dominate the market. This is info
that doesn't translate that easily in a CD or booklet...but does become really
apparent when doing a personal "walkthrough". Hence, I think it will do well
when guided by your LLL leaders, L.C.'s, etc.
Third comment...so how come I'm not promoting them at the Upper Breast Side?
THEY WON'T SELL THE INDIVIDUAL PARTS AND PIECES!!! (To me or, I believe
anyone else- correct me if I'm wrong, please!)
They are doubting the number of moms who melt, lose, step on, crack,
misplace, need extras b/c of frequent pumping, want extras just to cut down on
cleaning.....and they want me to instruct my customers to call them for parts!!! How
well does that work on Friday evening at 4:30 pm? Its horrendous!!! Very
micromanaging, I told them...seems like they are also in a quandary about what
to do regarding the silicone petal replacement.
So even though I have had the pump in my store for "some time", I am waiting
for the jury....and my repeated requests to them to stock these items. I
explained that I will not sell a (suggested retail price) $350 dollar pump and
tell a consumer to call Avent for reasons listed above if they need parts.
Does anyone else see my point? Not a good businesswoman decision, but one
that follows my philosophy to sell just those things that are true blue.
Last comments on design flaws....they haven't addressed the larger shield
size/Flange issue...(but I think that moms who need 27 mm might be okay in their
standard size) and I believe they may have a bottle -to- shield threading
problem where the bottle becomes undone very easily if you drop it (but they did
send some new shields just the other day so we will test drive these to see if
this holds true for all or not). No battery pack as far as I've seen...and I
don't know what they tell our European commuters to do if they need to pump
here and there.
So to summarize, I do suggest you check this pump out...it is really
extraordinary! Motor no more noisy that the PIS or PY...but an incredible antidote
for moms with really sensitive or painful nipples.
I would love to get more feedback. And I would love for Avent to wake up and
smell the coffee on the reasons why I am not advocating their pump. I will
think positive and believe they will research and find that selling spare parts
to our businesses is needed. I really think they have something that is
going to be a big hit.
Best to you,
