Four arrested in SUV filled with baby formula believed stolen
The Associated Press
STAFFORD, Va.
A vehicle being sought by police after a grocery store was robbed was pulled
over at gunpoint on Thursday, and officers found nearly 600 cans of baby
formula inside, as well as four North Carolina suspects in a string of
shopliftings.
The four, stopped in a Jeep at about 2 p.m. along Interstate 95, were charged
with stealing nine cans of baby formula from a Food Lion in Dumfries, police
said.
They believe the four were on a multistate spree stealing formula in
Washington, North Carolina, Kentucky and Virginia, Prince William County police
spokesman John Bogert said. Baby formula is a popular item to shoplift and sell
on the black market.
Roderick Blount, 23; Donovan DeWitt, 19; Mahogany Houston, 20; and Regina
Jones, 29, all of Goldsboro, N.C., are charged with misdemeanor petit larceny in
Prince William, and police said they expect other charges from other
jurisdictions.
Blount also is charged with identity fraud after allegedly giving police a
false name. Houston also is charged with assault and battery, and Jones faces a
felony charge of malicious wounding and a drug charge in Stafford. Police
said at the Food Lion, a female employee who tried to stop it was punched and
sprayed with pepper spray.
