Jennifer, I learn so much from your posts. You brought up such a good
point about how most people view "regularity". I had a co-worker years ago
who only stooled once per week (on Sunday), and if she was late for church
not even then. I told her that it was abnormal and that she should tell
her doctor. She had never even considered that her sluggish bowels would
help her doc. find out what was bothering her. (Not sure how this topic
even came up at work, but she was probably complaining about how crappy --
bad pun-- she felt for the 1,000th time and something in me just broke. I
must have decided I needed her health history or something). I tell this
story because I also read in your post all the reasons why non-daily
stooling has been justified as normal for a breastfed infant. I think I
will educate myself further, as I have been passing along some of those
same "reassurances" when asked by mothers if it was okay that their baby's
pooping pattern had slowed down. Thank you for the thought-provoking
assessment.
