Thanks so much for your great comment on Lactnet -
I think the point is that the person doing the fingerfeeding could be HELPFUL or HURTFUL depending on their skill and ability to respond to the infant's oral movements, responsive to their cues, and skilled in delivering milk appropriately ( elevation of the liquid, etc.).
Just like with any tool - pumps, shields, etc. - fingerfeeding can be under/over/incorrectly or very effectively utilized - you described so very well what it CAN do when done right!
