VItex, like all adaptogenic (think adaptive) herbs has its effect on a
system, organ or gland to restore balance. The effect on milk supply is
simply a side effect of the normalizing properties of vitex. Vitex will
not decrease milk supply or increase milk supply as such, however in
restoring pituitary functioning, one or the other might be the result.
I agree that one cannot assume more is better, but the amount needed
can vary from one woman to the next. You start low and titrate up as
needed. It is important to know that vitex is a powerful tool for
normalizing fertility as well.

My understanding is that vitex -- if used too much -- actually has the
reverse effect of low doses of vitex. I have witnessed this with
clients as
well. Small amounts of vitex are great. Many people therefore think
that
if a small amount is good than more is better. It is not. It can all
but
eliminate a milk supply in my experience.
