In the new Breastfeeding Atlas by Barbara Wilson Clay and Kay Hoover,
they mentioned a very large-breasted woman, sitting at a table and
setting her breasts and the baby on a tabletop (probably on a warm
blanket) to work on the latch. While certainly not the first approach
to try, this seemed like a useful next-order idea, since it would
stabilize the loose, pendulous breasts and make the baby feel secure.
Once the baby was latching and the mother was getting a feel for how to
do the dance, the dyad would certainly move onto more conventional
positioning, but sometimes you need a little bit of success to build on.
Great book, by the way.
