Thinking back over many years, as I do, it's not unheard of for some well 
known 'experts' to change their views, and the realist, and cynic in me, 
wonders whether in this electronic age, people like Richard Ferber have 
responded to the power of the internet or..perhaps he has been persuaded by 
research, and perhaps he's softened with age... or a combination of them 
all.

Thousands of people worldwide can receive a message about Ferber's views (or 
anyone else's) in seconds - distributed by someone who might have no media 
skills, or financial backing, but an internet connection and computer 
sitting in the kitchen. This is an incredible new tool and one that can be 
used for both good and evil messages.
The fact that 2000+ people on Lactnet are talking about this is a huge plus 
for Ferber at this time. To confirm what he's said in the media (and he's 
had lots), many of us will buy the book. If that's what the book does say 
now, we'll have no reason to continue 'not to recommend' it and he might 
even get on a different conference speaking circuit. (Perhaps he could 
research what happened to "Ferberized" babies... and if he's changed, then 
he does need good media so advocates can hear about it and change their own 
advice to parents..)

William Sears recently released a baby sleep book, with a foreword by James 
McKenna. What a formidable combination !
Sears has phenomenal promotion through large member organisations like LLLI, 
and his website. Jim McKenna speaks at lots of conferences (including large 
member organisation ones), is generous with his time, a sincere 
professional, and long time researcher into co-sleeping/bedsharing.

I watch these developments with interest and a wry smile, but I won't 
comment on Ferber until I read the book.
