The Second Nature sample came the night before my research team had a
followup ultrasound suck exam scheduled on a 5 week old baby, so I
sanitized the bottle and brought it along. Baby was already being
supplmented with a Dr. Brown bottle. With mom's consent, we compared
tongue movements and mouth position with both bottles, each with 1 oz of
expressed milk. The Second Nature teat was very compressible, the baby
squashed it almost flat, much flatter than the breast is usually
compressed. It also required a lot of effort to get milk from it, the
baby got annoyed and gave up on it long before finishing the oz of mom's
milk.
