When someone calls me for phone help, I get name, phone number, and referral
source. Then I immediately launch into my speech: "Before we begin
addressing the reason you called me, I need to let you know my policy and
the limits of phone help. I am willing to spend up to 10 minutes with you by
phone right now, and if necessary one more time. If the situation is not
solve-able quickly with that limited help, you will need to arrange to see
someone in person. I can help you find someone skilled.  Now, what is your
baby's name, his or her birthdate, and the reason you called me?"
