Some random thoughts, in no particular order...
The mini-pill has been known to cause a supply dip, although I can't recall
seeing any studies on it. It's all been anectodotal, I think.
If she was using her pump before the flight with a regular a/c adapter, and
then started using it with a car adapter (or vice versa), the change in power
has been known to affect the speed/suction of the pump. I had a PIS in
2000, and I definitely noticed it. Also saw it with the Lactina. This could
account for lower pumping output. Just my personal experience, though.
Regarding stress - I usually find travel with children stressful, even if it
is for a vacation. ;-)
Maybe her body was regulating the milk supply downward gradually, and she
noticed it because it's so easy to compare "before the trip" to "after the trip"
while we sometimes find it hard to see the changes that happen on a daily
basis, and are gradual. I don't know how else to better explain it.
Did she start taking any other meds for the plane trip? Sudafed for
stuffiness? Did she eat anything different on the plane? Mint, sage stuffing, etc?
<I'm really digging here, but want to give you some options, since this is
a situation that we don't hear about often!>
Did she carry a heavy bag or the baby in a holder as they walked through
airport, or while they were on vacation? Wear different clothing, or bras?
Maybe continuous pressure on all or part of the breast for extended period
affected production? Again, I'm digging for an explanation!
While they were on vacation, did baby get supplemental bottles from
well-meaning family or friends?
Hope I gave you some ideas, it's now past midnight for me, and I need to be
up early to take the family to Six Flags in the morning! :-) I'm sure I'll
think of more once I'm snuggled into bed...
