Here is an update on the Tucson city council meeting
re: public bfing.  I sent them an email and got a
quick thank you note and then received this email
today.

Thank you for your e-mail concerning public
breastfeeding.  I appreciate the time you took to
express your opinions on this important matter.

Last night, Mayor and Council unanimously approved
three actions.  
First, a resolution will be brought to the Mayor and
Council affirming our agreement with the City Manager
in his signing of an Administrative Directive (AD)
which states, "*it is the City's policy that a mother
may breastfeed her child in any location on City
property where the mother and child are otherwise
authorized to be."  This is not a required action
since the City Manager has already signed the AD but
it does signify our support for his action.

Second, a task force will be created to look into
State legislation the City can sponsor in order to
take this initiative to our state legislators for
their review.  Since 40 other states in the Union
protect public breastfeeding, examples of legislation
will be easy to find.

Third, the ordinance recently adopted by the Chandler
City Council will be reviewed by our City Attorney and
the Mayor and Council will discuss the possibility of
enacting a similar ordinance at a Mayor and Council 
meeting within the next 30 days.  I look forward to
those discussions and I would support taking similar
action.
