<We are trying topical nystatin for mom and baby for the weekend -
but if anyone has any other ideas in case it doesn't work I'd love to hear
them!>
Hi Jennifer,
Does sound like thrush - but could also be dermatitis (she said the nipples
were really red and slightly peeling).
The topical treatment may be enough, as it is child who has been unwell and
on antibiotics recently, not the mother.
In pregnancy, it is safe to prescribe oral nystatin ( 2 tabs tds) - I use
this frequently (in pregnant and lactating women). Apparently is not
absorbed, but I find many women respond to this (plus topical antifungal).
