Many thanks to Kimberly Radtke for posting about the materials developed by the Breastfeeding
Coalition of Washington and her role in producing these materials. I will be ordering the one on
Toxins and Breastmilk. The second line has the statement that I have never before seen before in
any publication or website that talks about toxins in breast milk making it clear that the risks of not
breastfeeding are greater than the risks of toxins in breast milk. How marvelous!
And a personal and public apology. The NY Times had published an article in their Sunday Magazine
section that mothers in my area interpreted as Toxic breast milk around the same time that the
materials beign developed by the Breastfeeding Coalition of Washington popped up on Lactnet. I
cannot tell you how many calls I received around that time from mothers who had never read the
article in which the mother who wrote the article actually said she would keep on breastfeeding but
just paniced about Toxic breast milk. I transferred much of my frustration from the fallout of the NY
Times article into expressing strong doubts and fears about how the materials on toxins in breast
milk would be developed and interpreted. I haven't actually seen the materials yet, but from the
looks of the website I am certainly preparing for a full meal of eating crow.
Again, thank you Kimberly!
