Nikki Lee recently posted about this study:
Just coincidentally, I had had my 2-year-old daughter in for a well-child
check-up a few days previous to her posting. The doctor we saw suggested
weaning, partly because my girl's weight gain is not keeping pace with her
increase in height. (And if you could see me, you'd be stunned that anyone
would think it odd that I should have a long, lean daughter!)
Anyway, I'm wandering off-topic. With regard to immunities, I recall that
the CDC's Blueprint for Breastfeeding indicates that a child's immune
system is not mature until 2 at the youngest. It makes sense to nurse at
least that long. Both the WHO and the American Academy of Family Physicians
recommends that a child should breastfeed for a minimum of two years. Those
sources should have some references for the statements.
HTH.
