I agree with your point that sanitation is an issue and I would was not
advocating a mom pumping when she was able to directly nurse her baby.
My thoughts behind handing out pumps were to help women who were
separated from the babies maintain a milk supply, to help induce
lactation if a baby was unable to latch or if the situation was safe, to
collect milk for babies that were separated from their mothers.
