I have something VERY unpopular to say, so please
forgive me when you read it:
SIDS effects less than 1/10 of 1% of babies (2500 SIDS
vs. over 4 million births). The irony of this is that
the new recommendations will negatively impact more
than 70% (or greater) of babies in this country.
Sometimes I am ashamed to be a nurse in the USA. What
has our culture come to? Is no one looking at the
REAL reason a pacifier is used in the first place?
At my workplace we see 2-3 SIDS a year and SMOKING
seems to be the biggest denominator for us.
Seems like again, the AAP cannot look past the
bottle-fed culture. It is not difficult to figure out
with the monies being exchanged.
Again, I am sorry if I have offended.
Warmly,
Pam, who has just about seen it all with all these
efforts to sabotage directly/indirectly breastfeeding
and how medicine continues to only look at fatalities
instead of overall public health.
