I do know people here in the US that have donated blood or tissue, and been
paid for it. However, the difference lies in how the product is used. If
the blood or tissue is to be given to another person (blood transfusion or
organ transplant) then the donor is not to be paid for it, with the exception of
plasma, and I haven't figured that part out.
If a person is receiving money for their pint of blood, then that blood is
to be used for research purposes, not to be given to other people. I used to
live in OKC, OK, USA, and there was a blood donation center that you could go
to to give blood, and make $30. I never did it, I was scared of how clean
they'd really be, but I had friends who did it and said it was fine.
