I am with the poster who notes that the baby should have been rooming
in. The baby is indeed irreplaceable, and for that reason should never
be out of the mother's sight.
But I have to ask, rhetorically, what has happened here that a *mother*
would actually not recognize her own baby until attempting to nurse for
TEN minutes? Perhaps I am unusual, but when I read research about how a
mother can recognize her own baby by the back of the little hand in
"only" a few days (or whatever it is), I wonder why it takes so long :)
