I will have to agree that WIC does provide infants under one year with
juice. Juice can be introduced into the infant's diet at 6 months of age.
It is the mother's option to take or refuse this juice. Guidelines in our
State say to offer juice from a cup, NOT a bottle. In fact, it is a flag
for counseling the mother if, in the diet history, it is found that juice is
given from a bottle.
Since the jury's still out on how long a baby can be exclusively BF without
any complimentary foods, we have to follow the most current recommendations
for introduction of complimentary foods, which is from 4-6 months of age.
