Jean, I know what you mean, I feel foolish too, when I advise cabbage and I 
tell the mom so!  I tell her we don't know why it works, it just does and as 
someone else said it's easy and cheap, so why not try?  I rec several other 
off the wall tips to parents too, I just always say something like this has 
worked for my family for years and you may want to try it too because it is 
easy (or cheap, or not 'medicine')  My two favorites are L-lysine for herpes 
and lime juice for diarrhea.  I don't know why they work, but they do! Who
