I've always had the impression that, in general, the public is oblivious to the ethics (lack of)  of the formula "gift" giveaway that hospitals participate in.  Most seem to accept it without giving conscious thought to its intent (and are unaware of its impact when they and their child later become a victim of the subconscious message that came with it--that it's acceptable to switch to formula because the hospital endorses it).  

I've been daydreaming of the impact it would have if informed women all across America would simultaneously publically protest the practices that were protested against recently in PA (and more)--would hospitals reconsider these practices when their "dirty little secrets" became public?   It would be interesting to me to see what would win out--the desire for hospitals to appear to be ethical in the public's eyes or the money ABM companies pay to them to peddle their product.
