I live in a rural area where the services of an IBCLC are well used & appreciated .
I'm not an RN or RM but a medications endorsed EEN of 21 yrs & past ABA breastfeeding counsellor of 13 yrs .
I worked hard & long to gain my credential, work hard at maintaining it well ( most of my LC private practice income goes on funding ongoing education, texts, journals etc).
Most Australian LC job vacancies seem to expect RN,s hence I work in private practice where I believe I play a valid & vital role in providing good IBCLC service .
It is time that the IBCLC title is respected & appreciated as it is in my community .
If there was any further requirement to cement this I'd gladly do it but another 4 years of full time nursing study wouldn't change me much as an IBCLC !
