Dear Gena
WIC in Indiana did develop a training program for hospitals, it is called
Building Bridges. WE have done 4 hour trainings in over 25 hospitals all over
the state. The program is done by a WIC IBCLC and a nurse working in a hospital
in another state. The program has been very well received by hospitals. We
cover how to get breastfeeding started and how WIC can help mothers when they
go home. SO many mothers are discharged with little or no follow up. I think
one of the reasons for the success of the program is how we use professional
trainers from both settings as the insturctors. Several breastfeeding
coalitions have developed from this as well as many more referrals to WIC. YOu may
contact me off list if you would like more information.
Warmly
Carole Peterson MS, IBCLC
Allen county WIC program
