Karleen: Thanks for bringing this study to my attention. As someone who
has spent years working with teen moms (several years, exclusively with
teen moms) I have long felt that a child having a baby causes the child
to "grow up quick". It still amazes me how wonderfully many ( I like to
say most, and apparently now I have some "evidence-basis" for saying this)
of these moms "step up" and accept the increased responsibility having a
baby brings to one's life. For many of these moms who may have fallen in
with the wrong crowd, they quickly realize that they now have a baby who
depends on them. It's amazing how they now have a purpose and direction to
their lives and how many of them go on to successfulluy complete their
educations, some going further with their education than they had ever
planned on. Especially with good mentoring and role modeling and access to
community resources. Now, if we could only do as well with the teen
fathers...
