Now that there is media attention focused on the issue of bfg in public
resulting from the nurse-in, it would be a great time to follow on with some
additional action.
It would be wonderful to phone up Barbara Walters and say: "Hey, we know
you aren't the enemy. We just couldn't let a remark like that go by because
it affects so many of our fellow women. How would you like to have a
conversation about this issue?" Perhaps by giving her a chance at redeeming
herself you can garner a real story about the issues faced by women
traveling on airplanes with babies. (You know, do you nurse and face the
digust of your seatmates, or let the baby scream and face the ire of the
whole cabin?)
Secondly, what about trying to send a delegation (with press releases in
advance to try to get media coverage) to several airline corp. headquarters
to inquire as to their on-board nursing policies? If they are friendly,
consider an award or framed letter of commendation they can hang in the
hallway. Try to have a camera present and record it for posterity with you
shaking hands with the CEO.
Thirdly, letters to the editor are widely read and are great ways to get
your political message in print. Someone should write a short, pithy
analysis of the motivation of the action and send it to the local papers.
The follow-on to a nurse-in can be the spring board that recruits newly
aware supportors of your cause, and the publicity may put pressure on others
to do a better job to stay off your radar.
