Dear Friends:
A LLL called me to ask for help; she has had 2 mothers hospitalized in
the past week. (One for pneumonia, and one for surgery.) In both cases, the
hospitals refused to permit the babies (4 months old) to visit their mothers to
nurse. The reason given was "germs".
What to do?
I suggested contacting Kay Hoover, who is the LC for the Philadelphia
Health Department, and as such, may have more authority. I also suggested the
mothers find some high-ranked advocate within the institution; perhaps their
own physicians, or the Chief of Pediatrics or someone with authority.
Any other ideas?
warmly,
Nikki Lee RN, MS, Mother of 2, IBCLC, CCE
