With my adopted babies, there were times when I had a friend donating at
least a small amount of EBM, to replace some of the formula that I needed to
use to supplement my milk with. Usually, it was in the neighborhood of 4
ounces a day, which I was happy to add to the average of 12-16 ounces a day
they got from me. I kept the EBM seperate, to be sure that it all got used.
I generally filled a Lact-Aid or, in some cases, a bottle, with only two
ounces of EBM at a time. If I thought the baby would likely need more than
two ounces of supplement at a feeding, I either had a second Lact-Aid or
bottle ready to switch out as soon the EBM was gone, or was prepared to add
to the Lact-Aid bag without having to get up. I felt like it was well worth
the little extra preparation, to make sure that none of the little EBM I had
got thrown out, mixed with formula that the baby didn't take.
