I have contacted Lois Arnold of the National Commission on Donor Milk
Banking. She says there are no published studies, only anecdotes. She says
that a number of years ago the milk bank in Veracruz Mexico started a study
looking at the use of pasteurized donor milk in burn dressings and found
that healing occurred in half the time when compared to traditional burn
dressings. However, they ran out of money for the research and never were
able to complete the study and publish results.
There was also an anecdotal report of using donor milk as a topical to treat
bedsores in a hospice situation where the young adult was in a permanent
vegetative state. His bedsores healed although he eventually died.
Arnold thinks it would seem a good thing to use if it could be kept sterile,
as all growth factors are stable after pasteurization.
If anyone finds anything else, please let me know.
