Dear Friends: Liz wonders about this study Freudenheim et al "Exposure to breast milk in infancy and the risk of breast cancer" Epidem 1994; 5:324-331. There are two other studies that found that being breastfed did not protect against breast cancer. Exposure to _breast milk_ (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=books&cmd=Search&term="breast+milk") in _infancy_ (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=books&cmd=Search&term="infancy") and adult _breast cancer risk_ (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=books&cmd=Search&term="breast+cancer+risk") . _Titus-Ernstoff L_ (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=PubMed&cmd=Search&term="Titus-Ernstoff+L"[Author]) , _Egan KM_ (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=PubMed&cmd=Search&term="Egan+KM"[Author]) , _Newcomb PA_ (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=PubMed&cmd=Search&term="Newcomb+PA"[Author]) , _Baron JA_ (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=PubMed&cmd=Search&term="Baron+JA"[Author]) , _Stampfer M_ (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=PubMed&cmd=Search&term="Stampfer+M"[ Author]) , _Greenberg ER_ (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=PubMed&cmd=Search&term="Greenberg+ER"[Author]) , _Cole BF_ (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=PubMed&cmd=Search&term="Cole+BF"[Author]) , _Ding J_ (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=PubMed&cmd=Search&term="Ding+J"[Author]) , _Willett W_ (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=PubMed&cmd=Search&term="Willett+W"[Author]) , _Trichopoulos D_ (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=PubMed&cmd=Search&term="Trichopoulo s+D"[Author]) . However, these authors didn't look at a large population of p remenopausal women, and the style of breastfeeding that was self-reported was not determined. Michels et al. used the Harvard nurses's study to say that breastfeeding didn't make a difference but they were looking at women who had been 'breastfed' in the 40s and 50s and 60s, so again the results are suspect. warmly, Nikki Lee RN, MS, Mother of 2, IBCLC, CCE Maternal-Child Adjunct Faculty Union Institute and University Film Reviews Editor, Journal of Human Lactation www.breastfeedingalwaysbest.com *********************************************** To temporarily stop your subscription: set lactnet nomail To start it again: set lactnet mail (or digest) To unsubscribe: unsubscribe lactnet All commands go to [log in to unmask] The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(R) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
