Hi friends,
I have come across a mother that has had one heck of a time finding a
decent ped in the South Suburbs of Chicago. Her first ped told her to start
supplementing because she was starving her baby on day 3 when the baby was only
5 oz. down. Her second ped insisted that she put her baby on solids at 4
months, and treated her like a criminal when she refused. Her daughter is NOT
slow weight gain or FTT. She threw the AAP guidelines in his face as she
walked out the door. Now on her third ped recommended by the local LLL group,
this ped misdiagnosed an impaction. Her baby, now 11 months, has gone 4 weeks
with NO bowel movement. The doctor said that if she had a problem, her
stomach would not be soft. Well, obviously the stomach was NOT soft.
I caught this story on a women's chat group, and highly recommended that
she get a referral for a pediatric gastroenterologist. A referral to a ped
gastroenterologist was provided per mom's request. The gastro doc found that
her baby was impacted, and the mother is now manually extracting her
daughter's bowel movements. The baby was placed on a regimen of manual extraction,
enema, and oral meds.
This poor mother has gone through three strikes on pediatricians out
there and she needs a good GP. Does anyone out there have a good
recommendation? Feel free to email privately.
