Elizabeth,
We just had this same issue last week. I had Dad bring in a cooler w/
frozen Gel packs and bring the EBM home at night, at first. Then the
med/surg unit let mom and baby stay together since she had a private room
anyway. That ended the storage issue.
But I really wasn't comfortable enough to have the EBM put in our BM
fridge, since I wasn't sure about it, so erred on the side of caution.
(Besides, the med/surg floor didn't have a fridge exclusively for EBM, so
this meant a lot of transporting to the OB unit for storage also)
Since it was late friday afternoon, infection control wasn't available, but
they would've been who I would have asked. Hope this helps some.
