As I sit watching this tragedy unfold on TV I was struck and saddened by the fact that the first pleas for items to help out included the need for lots of baby formula. Then as they showed moms who delivered during the storm I pray that they were encouraged and helped in the strongest way to nurse their babies. I remember reading a comment years ago by a mom who went through a very severe tornado. She commented that while she sat hudled in her basement, nursing her baby as the roof blew away, she was comforted by being able to do something so normal in such an abnormal situation.
As I pray for the victims, I include thanks for those moms who are able to nourish their infants with their milk through all the abnormalcy as well as sadness for those who have to worry about getting something for their infants to eat because for whatever reasons they do not have their own milk available. With all the concern about the spread of disease in the afermath, the nursing babies and their parents will have one more reason to be thankful.
Winnie
