Saw a program last night on The Discovery Channel (or maybe Discovery
Health) called Alison's Baby. It was about a woman with "limb deficiency"
(her words) similar to thalidomide effects. She has no arms and very short
legs. She became pregnant and had a son.

The program showed her breastfeeding shortly after birth, at home and in
public. She was using something like a sling when she was in public. She
obviously had a lot of help latching him on, but she talked about how it was
hard to bf in public and she had pretty much given up being discreet, but
she was doing it! Later in the program it showed her with a bottle, which
it looked like she could give her son without any additional assistance.

She had live in help (single mother) but insisted on doing as much for her
baby as she could--the nanny would bring the diaper but she would change
him, the nanny would prepare the baby cereal but she would feed it.

Pretty amazing, really.

Kathy
